Reflection:

I expected the VMO to be a bit bigger and more surprising. Considering it is low season I understand why not much was going on. I liked the hydoponics-systems on the first floor. Especially in contrast to the second floor which was empty and moldy. Isolated, scentific labor vs. unused, trashed place. You can see this company is developing and building up from a long way.

People eating tones of meat and fish every day all around the year. The amount of consumption leads to a dullness towards the treatment of animal which are being sacrificed in millions for the human basic needs. The animal suffering on markets and in shops here in Hongkong would cause  immense outrage in every western country. Althought in Europe and the US the animal treatment is far from acceptable, one wishes to reduce the cruelty in some Asian countries for at least a bit.

What i tried to do is to give animals a intriguing personality with combining a “abstract” piece of them (for example a fish ball) with a small story.  So I added their last (famous) words to their purchase situation. This maybe starts a dialoge about animal rights which then raise questions about the production chain, preparation precedure, selling points, animal treatments …

During the small experiment I attached the last words of a piece of fish stick and wanted to check the reaction of the “costumers”. I did’t get too much words out of my subjects. The summary would be: “ähm ok, i dont get it”

The two main problems with the experiment were the lack of understanding in language and the experiment execution situation.

Next time i would increase the explanation duration beforehand so my subjects would get first the experiment arrangement and second the actual stories of the food.
